Build your own routine

Make your own workouts with My routines, choose every set, rep and rest, group moves into supersets, keep folders and start a routine in one tap.

A routine is a workout you build yourself and keep. You pick the exercises, sets, weights and rest once, then start it in one tap whenever you train. Routines live in My routines on the Train tab.

Doing a routine never changes your program. If you follow a plan from Fit+ or your coach, it carries on as before.

Open My routines

Open Train and tap My routines. The card shows how many routines you have.

Your routines are listed with their moves, sets, about how long they take and when you last did them ("Not done yet" for a new one).

If you don't have a routine yet, you see Build your first routine with New routine and Browse Fit+ plans.

Create a routine

On My routines, tap New routine (or the + button at the top). The Build routine screen opens.

Tap the pencil next to the name to rename it, type a Routine name (for example "Leg day") and tap Done.

Tap + Add block and choose the kind of block: Warm-up, Main, Superset, Circuit, Finisher or Cool-down.

Pick an exercise from the Add exercise sheet:

  • Fit+ exercise library: every published exercise, with how-tos. Tap one to add it.
  • New exercise: make your own (see Make your own exercise).
  • My exercises: exercises you made before.

Add more moves with + Add exercise in a block, or more blocks with + Add block.

Check the Workout total at the bottom (time, moves and sets), then tap Save routine.

You need at least one exercise to save. If you leave without saving, Fit+ asks Discard this draft?: tap Discard to throw the changes away or Keep editing to stay.

Nothing is added for you. A routine has a warm-up only if you add one: tap Add a warm-up at the top of the builder, then pick the moves for it.

Start a routine from an exercise

You can also start from the exercise library:

Open an exercise and tap Add to a routine.

Pick one of your routines, or New routine to start a new one with this exercise.

The builder opens with the exercise added at the end. Change anything you like and tap Save routine.

Set the sets, reps and rest of a move

Tap a move in the builder to open its sets. Each set can be different.

At the top, choose how the move is measured: Reps, Time or Distance.

Tap a set in the table to change it. For each set you can choose:

  • Type: Warm-up, Working, Drop, AMRAP (as many reps as possible) or Failure
  • Reps, Load (in your weight unit, kg or lb) and Rest

Use + Add set to add a set, Remove set to delete the one you picked, or Copy set 1 to all to make every working set match the first.

Optionally add a Tempo (for example 3-1-1-0) and an Effort target: Easy, Good, Hard (1 to 2 reps left) or Max. It's the same scale you rate your sets with in the workout.

Tap Done.

Timed moves have Minutes, Seconds, Sets and Rest. Distance moves have a Distance and an optional Target pace, in your distance unit.

Make a move progress

In a move's sets, tap Progression to choose how it moves up after a workout where you hit every set:

  • Add weight: the same step each time
  • Reps, then weight: a rep more each time up to your top number, then more weight
  • Add a percentage: the weight grows by a share each time
  • No progression: keep the same sets every time

Tap Apply. The move then shows what to aim for next time, for example "Next time: 62.5 kg if you hit every set". When you do the routine, the player suggests the weight and reps for the move, as long as Suggest weights and reps is on in your progression settings.

Change a move

Tap the three dots next to a move for more options:

  • Edit sets (or Edit time or Edit distance)
  • Exercise defaults: what this exercise starts with in every routine (see below)
  • Replace exercise: pick a different move in the same place
  • Remove from routine: the move goes at once. Tap Undo on the message to bring it back.

Tap the three dots on a block to rename it, change its type, set the Rounds and Rest of a superset or circuit, or Remove block.

Make a superset, reorder moves

In the builder, tap the Group and reorder button at the top.

Tap the moves you want to group. To move something, hold its handle and drag it.

Tap Group as superset or Circuit. You can also Move to block, Duplicate or Remove the moves you picked.

Tap Done.

In a superset or circuit, the moves alternate: the first set of A1, then the first set of A2, and so on. You rest after each round, not between the moves. A superset or circuit needs at least 2 moves. If one has only one, it shows Needs 2 moves and you can't save until you add a move or change the block type.

Set exercise defaults

Exercise defaults are what an exercise starts with whenever you add it to a routine, so you don't set it up from scratch each time.

In the builder, tap the three dots next to a move and choose Exercise defaults.

Choose what you track (Weight × reps, Time or Distance), the Sets, Reps or Rep range, your Starting weight (Fit+ shows your best estimated one-rep max as a guide), the Rest between sets, a Target effort and the Equipment.

Turn Warm-up sets on if you want one lighter set before your working sets. It's off unless you turn it on.

Tap Save defaults.

Defaults only shape new routines. You can still change any set in a routine.

Make your own exercise

Can't find a move in the library? Make your own.

In the builder, tap + Add exercise, then New exercise.

Optionally tap Add a photo or short video to help you remember the setup (a JPEG, PNG or WebP photo, or an MP4 or MOV video up to 50 MB).

Enter a Name, choose What you track (Weight × reps, Reps only, Time or Distance) and the Equipment.

Pick at least one of the Main muscles, and any it Also works. Add Notes and cues if you like.

Tap Save exercise. It's added to your routine and listed under My exercises for next time.

Your own exercises count toward your muscle volume and records like any Fit+ exercise. Only you can see them.

Start a routine

On My routines, tap Start on a routine. A 3, 2, 1 countdown runs and the workout player opens, as with any workout. See Do a workout.

In your own routine, your settings apply: your default rest when a move has none, and suggestions for your next weights. See Set your rest timer and progression.

Edit, duplicate or delete a routine

  • Tap a routine's name to open it in the builder.
  • Tap the three dots on a routine for Edit routine, Duplicate, Move to folder or Delete routine. A deleted routine goes at once, with Undo on the message.

Keep routines in folders

Folders group routines you run together, such as push, pull and legs.

On My routines, tap Folders, then New folder.

Type a Folder name and tap Save.

To put a routine in a folder, tap the three dots on the routine, choose Move to folder and pick the folder (or No folder to take it out).

On the Routines tab, routines are grouped by folder, with the rest under Not in a folder. To rename or delete a folder, tap it on the Folders tab. Deleting a folder keeps its routines: they move out of any folder.

Other ways to get a plan made for you

  • Setup questions: answer a few questions about your goal, where you train, your experience and any sore joints, and Fit+ picks and tailors a plan for you. Redo them any time from the Me tab by tapping Adjust on your goal.
  • AI Coach: ask the AI Coach to build a plan or plan a run, and confirm it in the chat. If you're following a coach's program, the new plan is kept under Saved for later in My plan so it doesn't replace your coach's. See AI Coach.
